Lewisham's North Area

Lewisham's North Area

Over the centuries, this area has been shaped by the network of waterways - the dockyards of the River Thames, Deptford Creek and the River Ravensbourne, which alongside the railway lines has created an area known for its maritime and industrial heritage. The vision

By 2040, historic high streets will be strengthened and riverside spaces and underused industrial sites will be transformed with cultural activity and regeneration. A central growth corridor follows the A21 road from New Cross signalling the potential for fornew, genuinely affordable homes, modern workspace and community facilities over the next 20 years. The delivery of the Bakerloo line extension will deliver a new transport hub at New Cross and unlock investment across the entire area.

The Local Plan sets out objectives for a number of areas including the New Cross Road (A2 corridor), the Lewisham North Creative Enterprise Zone, the Thames policy area and Deptford Creekside as well as walking and cycling routes - North Lewisham Links.

What will the Local Plan mean for this area?

The Local Plan sets out proposed approaches to help achieve the vision and objectives, which include:

  • Place-based policies for different neighbourhoods and topic areas
  • Site allocations, setting out our expectations for the use of land and design of development on specific sites
  • Have your say

Read the North Area Overview and the Summary Document for an overview of the objectives and place-based policies. Full details, including site allocations, are set out in the Local Plan: Main Issues and Preferred Approaches document.
